We witness the results of a deadly eruption that destroyed a whole settlement just over a century ago. This place was destroyed by volcanic ash over 100 years ago when nearby Mount Tarawera volcano erupted, killing over 150 people. We walk around and explore the relics of that deadly day. Next we take a look at the now peaceful lake shore bordering the killer volcano that spread over 2 billion cubic metres of suffocating ash over the region in 1886. Studies: This visit with the help of relics, dioramas, photos and excavations teaches us to understand the affects of the destructive forces of the fine suffocating powder that spread everywhere ultimately crushing buildings and formulating deadly lahars. We learn about the causes, processes and possibilities of future events. See also:- Killer Volcano LINK for studies
