Lake Tekapo

|
Lake Tekapo is a stunning remote jewel among the high tundra lands. This is the highest of the all New Zealand's major lakes. It contributes to the large Waitaki River system and has attracted hydro power industries, recreation and tourisits industries based near its lakeside settlement. We visit the famous stone Church of the Good Shepherd with its famous altar and the bronze statue of the faithful collie sheep dog. The country's highest glacier lake presents a delightful sight with it's attractive teal colourings. The waters from here form part New Zealand's largest HEP scheme and are also used extensively for irrigation, as well as recreational fishing, water skiing and ice skating.
