A huge selection of carefully protected native mountain plants grow well in the harsh mountain environment.  Here they have adapted to searing sun, lack of water, poor soils lashing wind, weeks covered in snow.

Studies show us the way these plants have adapted to the conditions and need each other to survive. There are distribution systems, (insects, water, wind & birds) to observe.

Outside the Mt Cook National Park we encounter spreading exotic flora and fauna that makes us aware of our changing natural environment.
