We track the transition of the communities and industries from gold mining to tourism and look at the factors that have made some of today's settlements so prosperous while others have been left as ghost towns. By surveying the industries and retailers in the prosperous settlements you will be amazed at the huge variations between these communities and others you visit. You will see how human desire and long term needs conflict with the wish to keep the beautiful natural scenery unspoiled. We look at the service industries and see the stresses that they are encountering to meet the demands for workers, water, sewage, space, access and entertainment etc.   We can divide into groups to report back with a lists of all the retail businesses, (food, non food, accommodation and activity).
