There are numerous suitable sized water ways that are easily accessible and comfortable for these exercises.  All Zones in New Zealand have rivers suitable for students to use. KANES choose an appropriate river for your group as rivers are constantly changing.

Studies
Students enter the river in groups of 4 or 5 and take the appropriate depth and flow measurements then work as a team to complete the calculations for both flow rate and discharge rate.  This exercise takes over an hour and is often a highlight to remember about the tour when taken seriously and the concepts are understood.  KANES provide simple equipment and worksheets for  groups wanting to include this activity.  (Prior booking needed - no extra cost)
