Fruit Growing

Oasis of  irrigated orchards adorn desert lands producing grapes, apples, apricots, peaches cherries. We explore the irrigation and fertilisation processes these involve. This is the southern South Island's fruit growing region. Due to its weather and environment intensively managed areas of rich greens contrast spectacularly with the brown and gold landscape.  For decades this Zone has produced a large share of the seasonal temperate climate fruit such as peaches, apricots cherries apples, pairs.  Recently grapes exploded on to the scene producing many award winning wines. A short visit to one of the orchards enables us to sample the goods. Study groups walk among the trees and learning about the life cycles needs and processes required to produce the excellent products that travel the world. We can try some of the produce. guide explains the rudiments of the seasonal activities and arranges for introductions to the management for further studies.
