We find the country's greatest number and variety of rivers.  

Heavy rains swell the rivers and bring vast amount of glacier torn rocks and eroded mountain material to fill valleys, create plains and realign the coasts.

Maintaining bridges and roads are major tasks In this zone We really begin to understand the destructive power see causes and processes of rampant river destruction.  We explore programs to control and manage these angry outbursts and learn how to identify areas of risk. 

River Measuring
The Haast River is the largest river in the zone that has modern measuring systems in place for us to visit and the information centre demonstrates  the equipment.
