Following the Lewis Pass Alpine Trail we pass 3 hot springs areas. There are others deep among the mountains. Two of these are commercially developed at Hanmer Springs and Maruia Springs enabling us to enjoy the benefits of the hot therapeutic experience in clean safe conditions.

Studies
By visiting at least 2 of these areas we can lean to  understand the causes and processes that made all this hot water spring from the earth.  We see how this has been harnesses and is still developing as a major visitor attraction.

As well as adventure seekers and geography groups these features are of special interest to chemistry, geography engineering and social studies groups.
