Culture of the Maori

The unique Maori culture was tribal and Stone Age just 150 years ago. Today it is being propelled into a new, modern, aggressive European culture.

Studies help us understand the stresses, reasons and causes of cultural differences so we can respect other cultures and learn from others we may find around the world today.

We can take a guided tour of the Canterbury Museum where we see excellent dioramas depicting the Stone Age Maori people before the Modern settlers arrived.   We view:- hunting techniques, cave life, housing, tools and tool making (from rocks), food, clothing, tools transport systems.

take us to places to learn about, pre European Maori homes, clothes, food, town planning, treasures, tools, travel and wars.
