Health & Safety Policy

NZ law, requires tour operators to be licensed.
This requires the holder to be without a criminal conviction that might be a risk to the safety of clients.
KANES Tour operator’s licence number is 84022/1 and can be verified by contacting NZ Police (transport division).

KANES have been operating with students since 1989. Prior to that Lloyd Kane (director) has assisted with school camps, ran a scout group and lead many adult tours.

All KANES staff are chosen after extensive investigation
Staff are all of good character and cleared for working with children. They are usually parents themselves and often qualified teachers.  Staff undergo a training assessment course and only those who meet both the expectations of customers and
KANES are employed.

KANES use only qualified operators
These are folk who are well known within the tour industry for their safe operation.  They all adhere to their own special laws certifications and safety standards.

Ski Areas
Highly qualified medics, doctors and helicopters are available for the treatment and rapid evacuation of patients. In addition,
KANES provide briefings to explain the ski field hazards and the special safety requirements that relate to their groups. (These include boundaries, weather protection, etc).

Walking trails
KANES
choose well marked trails that are and free from major hazards.

With the more challenging walks KANES ensure safety by placing an experienced staff member at the front and at the back of the groups. Other staff walk among the students. Each person maintains visual contact with the person behind him/her. This requirement ensures  groups maintain the speed of the slowest walker and avoids separation of the group.  Cold weather clothing and food are carried on walks that last longer than 100 minutes.

Home Stay Accommodation
KANES do not offer home-stays unless they comply with approved safety standards.  However, when groups have arranged these themselves directly through related organisations.  KANES are pleased to assist with communications and coordinate  the group's home stay accommodation with the tour itinerary.

Weather
On all activities guides assess appropriate clothing, food, time safety margins, weather and guests' ability to cope. All guides are aware of the indications of hypothermia and its treatment.

Food
Self catering groups have the benefit of learning the skills of food preparation, including safe hygiene and food purchasing standards. KANES guides are aware of these requirements and ensure they are adhered to. Kitchens are provided by the licensed accommodation, food is purchased only from certified outlets and guests use only their own individual utensils, and drying towels.

Finances
To ensure your group's funds are safe
KANES do not ask for land tour payment until your group's arrival in New Zealand. (Except for your $300 group booking deposit.)

Insurance
KANES Tours include Accident Insurance with all packages.  It pays all necessary transport, hospital, medical care and recuperation costs while the claimant is in New Zealand.  This cover has no defined limit.
An additional (optional) travel insurance is suggested to cover other non accident medical costs.  MORE
