NZ law requires tour operators to be licensed
Operators to be without a criminal conviction. Customers can contact the transport division of the New Zealand police to verify the validity of any licence holder. 
KANES operator’s licence number is 84022/1.

KANES have been operating with students since 1989
Previously Lloyd Kane (director) assisted with school camps, lead a scout group for 10 years and managed many adult tours.  There have been no major accidents or incidents involving
KANES since its beginning.


KANES staff are chosen after extensive investigation
Staff must be of good character and cleared for working with children. They are usually parents themselves.  Staff undergo a training assessment course and only those who meet both the expectations of customers and
KANES are employed.

KANES use only qualified activity operators
These folk are well known within the tour industry for their safe operation.  They all adhere to their own special laws, certifications and safety standards of their industry.

KANES groups stay at safest available family style Accommodation
●  All Comply with NZ government safety requirements for fire, health and earthquakes.
●  Rooms are clean and lockable.

●  KANES look for safe areas where supervision requirements are less.
●  Manager and tour guide are available during the nights
●  Student groups are encouraged to have "lights out" timings and defined boundaries
●  Students are kept busy each day, to ensure they sleep well at night.

Home-stays must comply with approved safety standards. However, groups are welcome to arranged these themselves directly through their related organisations.  KANES are pleased to coordinate these with the itinerary.

Coaches are inspected twice yearly
KANES ensure a vigorous safety standards at all times. Coaches are inspected by independent approved authorities ensuring strict government safety standards are maintained.

Coach drivers are assured "safe" because:-
●  Licenses guarantee ability, maturity and health
●  Drivers must be free from any criminal record that might cause concern
●  Licenses are renewed by the government on a regular basis
●  Driving times are controlled to avoid fatigue
●  KANES apply additional checks and requirements that further enhance safety
●  KANES blood alcohol policy is zero when driving
●  KANES choose only experienced drivers
●  KANES ensure drivers have a sound knowledge of the areas they travel
●  KANES employ drivers who are popular with their passengers

First Aid is always near

KANES staff have first aid training
Medical assistance is available at all stages during the tour

Ski areas provide medical contingency plans
KANES visit areas that have highly qualified medics, doctors and helicopters services available for the treatment and rapid evacuation of patients. In addition, KANES provide briefings explaining the ski field hazards and the special safety requirements relating to their groups. (These include boundaries, weather protection, etc).

Walking trails safety
KANES
choose well marked trails that are and free from major hazards.
 With the more challenging walks KANES ensure safety by placing an experienced staff member at the front and at the back of the groups. Other staff walk among the students. Each person maintains visual contact with the person behind ensuring groups maintain the speed of the slowest walker and avoids separation of the group.  Cold weather clothing and food and first aid items are carried on walks that last longer than 1.5 hours. Weather Dangers are avoided,
On all activities, guides assess appropriate clothing, food, time safety margins, weather forecasts and guests' ability to cope. All guides are aware of the indications of hypothermia and its treatment.

Food is purchased prepared within safe practices
When self-catering, students learn new skills for food preparation, safe hygiene and food purchasing. Kitchens are provided by the licensed accommodation, food is purchased only from certified outlets.  Guests use only their own individual utensils and drying towels.

Finances are protected
To ensure your group's funds are safe
KANES do not ask for land tour payments (except for $300 deposit) until groups arrive in New Zealand.

Accident Insurance Included
New Zealand Accident insurance pays all necessary transport, hospital, medical care and recuperation while the claimant is in New Zealand.  This cover has no defined limit.  KANES recommend additional travel insurance to extend this and cover other non-accident contingencies.

Health
Guidance on personal health is sent both in advance and offered during each tour. Staff are assisted to access professional medical support when needed.
KANES ensure food and water are safe and adequate facilities are provided.

Extra Assurance
KANES abide by all reasonable requests from guest staff to meet all higher risk management protocols they request be followed.
