Many unique rainforests were demolished by mining and milling industries and left huge expanses of unproductive wasteland with all the soils washed away.

Studies help us see the the methods that caused the damage and the ways new laws for land management systems ensure future land viability.  We see also modern systems of farming that increase productivity and one that enable the wastelands to slowly returning to their original rainforests.
