In this zone we find a narrow strip of rain drenched land of glacial and river deposit lying between a violent swirling ocean and towering alps.  We encounter on land a gigantic tectonic collision between the giant Pacific and Indo Australian plates. The uplifting Alps create a host of geographic features and historic events we see today.
