We find examples of various typed of engineering all over depending on out interest.  Old structures and old technology are a good starting point and are plentiful and accessible.

Earthquakes are also an important consideration. An old harbour has wharf facilities. flood control embankments and bed-load maintenance systems. The oldest and latest bridges are in use here.

Studies depend on each group's specific interests. We can explore the buildings construction wooden, steel and concrete.  Then there are bridges, steam powered motors and river control systems. Fascinating mining structures using both wood and iron. We explore power systems using water, and steam. We look at the considerations in place to protect structures from the big earthquakes that strike this region about every 50 years.
